My Story

The Man Behind the Lens

Field portrait

For nearly 20 years, I lived in a bubble. After surviving a near-fatal battle with pancreatitis in 2008, I found myself navigating a world that felt increasingly small. Between health struggles—Type 1 diabetes, neuropathy in my hands, and leg splints—and the devastating loss of my children and my marriage, I felt defined by my disabilities and my past.

I spent years at home in Perth, watching the world through a window and feeling inferior to those moving past me. I was a chef who had lost his kitchen, a father who had lost his home, and a man who felt he had no qualifications to his name. I felt punished by life, and for a long time, I believed I deserved it.

But in 2026, I decided that my past was done.

I traveled from Perth to Glasgow every week to learn a new way to move. On June 3rd, I passed my driving test in a push-and-pull adapted car with zero minors. It wasn't just a license; it was the key to my escape hatch. It was the moment I stopped being "the disabled man" and became the pilot of my own life.

Now, through Drone Highlands, I am reclaiming Scotland. Every 4K shot is a promise kept to myself and my family. I am no longer looking through a window; I am looking down from the clouds.

This is my story of reconstruction. I am Mark, and the view from here is finally clear.
